Wai Alvarado said: “This is a very sad and a very serious matter for the family of our dear friend. Although it is an isolated incident, it is still unfortunate that there has been no more response from BAE Systems. “This is very distressing for our family and friends. We have been told that his mother will receive this money. “Boeing has not responded at all to our appeals for any information and our family has repeatedly asked them to do so. “All we want from BAE Systems is for the customer to give them any help and information, because their customer service is woefully inadequate. “We are heartbroken that this has occurred and that the family has had to go through this. We would like to thank our friends and the public for their concern as we tried to work out how to get them answers. “Boeing had apologised to my family on the Friday that we discovered the fact of the matter, but on the basis that we were the “responsible party” and we were under orders to respond. “This is still not enough. I cannot believe that the BAE systems management doesn’t realise the scale of the problem and how serious this is. “We have had three phone calls from the company after we alerted them to the incident. They have not responded.

We are aware of the situation and have been in contact with the concerned individuals and their families.

“Please keep contact numbers confidential.” Boeing spokesman Andy Kost said the company offered a “deep and sincere apology to Ms Jackson and all our employees and customers”. He added: “We will not be making any comment further until we have received further information from the US government.” When contacted by Reuters, BAE Systems, based in Milton Keynes, said it had suspended its investigation into the death of the pilot, and had launched a full inquiry. It added it had not yet learned what was happening. Mr Jackson’s family declined to comment. Mr Alvarado’s father, Juan, 72, said he knew nothing about the case while the police investigation was “staying on the shelf”. His wife, Maritta, 48, said: “I can’t imagine what happened to him, I can only imagine what it’s like for the family and the relatives.” Mr Alvarado said he would like the US military to “reinvestigate”.

The FBI, which has jurisdiction over aviation accidents, did not respond to a request for comment
