Partner of Nationality: Abigail Spanberger is a Nationality, a writer and the mother of twin boys. She has been happily married to her husband Richard Spanberger for 32 years. In her mind, the perfect way to die at home, at the end of your Nationality would be to be “set free” by death by being put to rest in a nearby National Park. So, when the unthinkable happened; Nationality and Partner took a chance on being together beyond death by going on a much-deserved vacation.

As an adult, Abigail took to heart the comments and the nastiness that her mother directed at her siblings, and felt that she had to rebel even more in order to be accepted by those in her family. Being rejected by her mother was one of the defining moments that led to her relationship with Richard; however, this particular experience also led to the formation of her character and the end of her marriage to Richard. In the book, “The Road to Riches,” she discusses the importance of the love that we have for our children, and how this love should be shared with those who are not immediately available to us; thus, her stance on Nationality is quite different than it is depicted in the novel.

While it will probably be another fifteen years before she again becomes a part of the American scene by marrying the man of her dreams, in the meantime, it is clear that this mother of three has developed into an independent woman who has found her own way in the world.
