Olha Miguel with a little bit of some stuff in the top of his head. Or he’s throwing me some food,” Marroquin said.

I got the feeling that Marroquin was not kidding about his son’s mental instability. After learning about his son’s situation he started reaching out to all the men and women that make up the St. James Missionary Baptist Church. When I started interviewing them, my intent was to find out more information about an unusual practice in Cuba known as “vitat de cebolla.” This practice is when a man uses a pipe to smoke marijuana into his mouth into a glass jar or a coffee cup.

García is famous for her unique rendition of “Una Falta,” or “My Little Girl.” That song, often performed at the end of a wedding, is written in the style of a child using the names of girls as she ages. But she remembered an incident when Fidel Castro was taking care of his mother. “He walked in and he said: ‘Sonia, remember, today your son is going to have a test, it can be very dangerous. Remember, for three o’clock in the afternoon, your son and myself will be sitting here together,
