On April Fool’s Day, Ashley Marie posted on her website an advertisement for a man she was having an affair with called Eric Berry. She advertised that Berry was 30 years old and wanted to get to know her better. Several months later, it was discovered that the man she was having a relationship with was in fact a con artist named Eric Gill. He had set up the ad on his dating site in order to solicit money from women looking for a man older than she was. The con artist had no intention of getting serious with Ashley Marie; however, she had been receiving emails from his “business partner” and hoped that she would be interested in him.
Two and a half months later, Ashley Marie contacted the “national agency” that was advertising Eric Berry’s contact information. The ad that she posted was removed by the company the very next day. According to the National District Attorneys General, Ashley Marie committed fraud by lying about her age and stating that she was 35 when she was in fact twenty-three. She is currently being held on a $1.5 million bond and is scheduled to stand trial.
