Which Colour Trends Are Right For You?
The colour trends of the twenty-first century are a far cry from those of the seventies and eighties. The first decade was marred by a variety of fashion faux pas such as wearing pink at the first big fashion event, Mardi Gras in New Orleans. It was only later when the fashion world began to take notice of more than just skin deep colour combinations that people began to question the purity of colour trends. At first it was the fashionistas of the day who were deemed guilty of ‘pinkification’, before the general public came to understand what the fuss was all about. Pink blouses were everywhere in the early 2010s, and for a while it seemed that there would be no limit to the rainbow of shades that could be worn as accessories to outfits.
However, things aren’t quite so simple. While many of us have been conditioned to think of certain colours as being the height of the fashion quotient, there are actually some colours which are simply not fashionable for 2021. Brightly coloured fabrics, vibrant colours and skin tones are simply not desirable these days. In fact, the very idea of an outfit featuring bright, bold, and saturated colours is considered too loud and garish. The pendulum has already started to swing in this direction with darker, grimmer looks taking the limelight once again.
The most important thing to remember when it comes to colour trends is that trends tend to cycle back around four years after they first appear. While you may not necessarily want to admit to it, everyone experiences a colour bias, whether consciously or subconsciously. While past fashion lines may have seemed to endorse certain colours, current fashions are less likely to do so. What might look great on your friend may not match your own sense of style, so it’s important to be aware of what’s current and what’s not when it comes to your colour choices.
