What’s Sock Tape All About?

PVC Sock Tape is an extremely tough, hard wearing, waterproof adhesive tape. Made from Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) it comes in an incredible variety of colours. Its most famous use to date has been in Football, specifically Goalkeeping socks, where it’s wound around the legs above and below the shins to keep them up perfectly. It also works perfectly in conjunction with other products such as Velcro, and some specialist goalkeeping gloves for instance, making any job a lot easier!

The great thing about PVC sock tape is that can be simply peeled off when required, whilst its much stronger and more durable than cotton tapes for example, it’s still very much a delicate product and needs to be looked after properly. So here’s how you do it. Firstly, when preparing to peel off the sticky side of the tape, don’t pull at it too much, if at all. Start by giving the tape a good tug, then let it slide down your leg slowly, being careful not to put pressure on the area where it will be sticky (it will disappear as you get down to the bottom!) And wipe it off with a wet rag, being careful not to rub too hard.

It’s important to note when applying the tape to your socks that you wear a pair of cotton socks underneath. This is because the tape will adhere to the sock much better when it’s wet. If you wear different coloured socks underneath the tape will get mixed up and won’t stick correctly. So wear the coloured ones underneath for now.
