What Were the Latest Fashion Trends in the 1960s?
Fashion is always changing, but what were the most popular and trendiest fashion trends in the 1960s? In fact there are so many to choose from that it would take a book to cover them all. One of the biggest changes was the colorization of clothing. Black was once the norm, but it was no longer the only ‘in’ color and women’s clothing was no longer uniformly black or white.
One of the first fashion trends to take off was the use of bright colors such as pinks, red and orange. Wearing these vivid hues and a lot of patterned designs was in during the 1960s, but they were a bit overdone. The new look for womenswear included solid colors with some patterns incorporated. Mixing and matching bright colors with pastel or floral prints was popular as well as solid colors mixed with pastel or cream. This trend toward the more youthful styles was carried over into the 1970s.
Another major change was in the types of footwear that women wore. Earlier high heel shoes were worn but in the 1960s flat shoes, sometimes with straps, became more popular and some even wore platform heels. Also, they began to wear pants that were less traditional such as baggy ones, boot cuts and baggy jeans. All of these fashions made the 1960s Fashion World a much more fashionable place to be.
