What Is Anastasia Casey?

Anastasia Casey is a famous Russian model and actress. Her first appearance in the US was in a rather amateurish movie called Vanilla Sky, but after her second movie performance, she was signed by modelling agency Global and went on to feature in several high-budget movies and even garnered Golden Globe and MTV awards for her work. Anastasia’s recent roles have been largely in music videos, most notably with the band The Killers, as well as in films such as The Nutcracker and Edward Scissorhands. She is not, however, a fashion representative or an endorser of any sort for Estee Lauder, despite the fact that her pictures are used on their products.

The real story of Anastasia Casey and her relationship with Estee Lauder is rather convoluted. It turns out that Anastasia is really married to an American in order to escape the Russian marriage (she had been previously told by her husband that he would divorce her if she returned to Russia). After some time apart, she decides to marry her American husband again in order to avoid getting into a divorce. At this point, it seems that her husband realizes that she is still married, so he goes ahead and files for divorce, but then changes his mind again, opting to remain with her. He tells her that he loves her and wants a future with her, but only wants to be “part of her family” again.

This is where the confusion about Anastasia’s nationality begins. A representative from Global Models Management tells Casey that she is simply Russian, which is confirmed on a press conference. On her part, Anastasia tells the press conference’s moderator that she is American because her husband told her so. Despite the fact that she was married before, the press conference makes it look like Anastasia was forced into marrying this man against her will and that her marriage was fraudulent, thus breaking the model’s most important rule: nationality. Unfortunately, in the age of Internet stalking, people cannot be too careful and often end up hurting themselves or others simply by being ignorant about what is and isn’t considered national identity.
