What Are the Advantages of Snorkel Socks?

Many people who have never even heard of snorkelling before will be surprised to learn that a snorkel sock isn’t simply some kind of bizarre fashion accessory that you’d wear to look strange and funny. Rather, a snorkel sock really is what it sounds like – a pair of socks that go over your snorkel’s mouth, with the aim of capturing some of that unwelcome debris which would normally make its way down your snorkel tube during your dive. These items are available in a wide variety of colours and styles, to suit any taste or colour scheme that you may happen to have in the real world. However, there is one very specific style, which is only available via the internet, and that is a snorkel sock which actually goes over your entire nose and mouth! These are made specifically to look and work like actual snorkels, allowing you to experience the sights and smells of the undersea world without having to actually go and snorkel.

The most popular type of snorkel sock features a clear opening in the front, which is easily adjustable to add or remove additional water based lubricant, allowing you to add more water as required for increased lubrication. It also features a clear flap at the back of the snorkel head, which can be opened to allow access to the water intake system. This is great for when your mask becomes wet – because you’ll have easy access to the air intake mechanism, which prevents it from becoming damaged by the oil from your snorkel head.

It is important to note that snorkel socks do not work in a vacuum quite like the type of mask you would use whilst snorkelling, as they are not completely waterproof. However, they can still be a useful option, especially if you are looking for a quick and simple way to add moisture to your underwater breathing system. Another benefit of snorkel socks, as opposed to a full face mask, is that the air intake can be kept completely clear, providing you with an environment similar to that which you would find on dry land. Whilst it may not provide as much visibility as a full face mask, it can still be extremely helpful for swimming and other deep sea diving activities. Also worth noting is the fact that snorkel socks are very easy to remove and clean, meaning that your mask won’t get damaged by small pieces of dirt and debris.
