What Are Some Gang Fashion Trends?

The Gangsta style has been around for several years now and the trend is showing no signs of slowing down, as seen in this September issue of People. “Gangsta Style” was previously known for its dark clothing, but now, even the bright, colorful garments are popping up, with neon green and pink and black and red and yellow and lime green being the most popular choices. This new Gangsta trend is seen in many areas of the country but particularly in Los Angeles, California and New York City. Members of a gang are said to dress similarly, often wearing matching t-shirts, biker glasses or patchwork. This Gangsta Style is seen in videos that show hoodlums from rival gangs doing wheelies and performing street moves.

Another thing you can see in the September issue of People is the skater outfits called the “tennis elbow”, which are really low shorts with skater stripes. Members of the A Crew, a street gang, also wear tennis elbow to show their affiliation with the sport. Skater kids are also sporting these low cuts and they are called the “tennis elbow tee” and the “tennis elbow bootie”. These new trend trends are an extension of the original gangsta styles and they are an attempt to make the fashion of gangsters more mainstream.

It’s interesting to observe how fashions change throughout time and when you look back at gangster fashion in the past, it’s obvious that it represented a certain element of the American Dream. Nowadays, however, more people are trying to express themselves politically and socially and many of these folks wear clothing that seems too casual for gangster style. This new trend is part of a larger cultural movement that is sweeping across the nation. And when you look at the pictures of gangsta tattoos in the media today, it’s not hard to see why. If you love the old school gangster fashion and want to express yourself without being accused of being a gangster, gangsta style is a great way to go.
