Washing Compression Socks in Your Washing Machine

Washing compression socks shouldn’t be a hassle, but a pleasant one at that. Avoid stretching or tugging on your socks excessively during the washing process; this could ruin your clothes. Your secret weapon in washing your compress socks however is no surprise – detergent. This is essentially to get rid of bacteria and oils in the process without destroying your clothes. Here’s how you do it.

Start with washing your socks in lukewarm water, which should be just enough to soak the fabric. Do not ever wash your compression socks in hot water; this can cause damage to both the fabric and the rubber. The detergent you’re going to use is going to dissolve the soap and grease on the fabric and the rubber bands, then mix it with the water before washing them again. Use a mild detergent that is non-abrasive. If the detergent doesn’t dissolve well with the water, dilute it with a bit of water and use that instead.

Once you’re done washing compression socks, make sure that they dry on a hanger or in a closed space, and let them air dry. If you’ve got them hanging in your washing machine, make sure that the washer is completely unplugged before turning it on, and then run it under warm water. Turn it on normally and let the machine run for five minutes before removing the socks to see if they dry with a slight wave. They should have gone off by that point.
