Umesh Jie, a 21-year-old senior industrial sciences major, was walking to class on Friday when he realized that a few friends from his junior high were on the same bus that was forced to cancel their trip after their student ID was taken off its card.
Jie, who said he was โreally excitedโ to be on the bus, was riding with nine friends from his โinner circleโ and his parents, one of whom lives with his parents. In a previous class he said he had only heard of people being detained on the bus before, not being able to see their parents, but now he feels the โabsolute terror.โ
Students were told the bus driver would take them to school after the 9th hour, Jie said.

Jie said it appeared like the driver was โhiding behind the wallsโ of the bus to avoid an on-call officer to take over, but he didnโt feel that was the reason.
He said he was afraid if he waited for his parents to call โthey would put their hands on my friends hands until it was over.โ
An NYPD spokesperson said the department had the driverโs name and numbers, but wasnโt able to release details.
Jie said his parents, also student conduct officers, were โincredibly supportive of us,โ but ultimately had to cancel their return transportation.
A fellow student said he was on the bus with his mom, brother, cousin and best friend and did not have his ID in his wallet. The two men on the bus were separated by several people. He said he was worried the driver would have his
