In 2150 B.C., Cleopatra tells her lover Marc Anthony that she will give birth to a boy and she in fact does so on the day of a scheduled cartage of animals in the Temple of the Isis in Capua, Italy during a festival called the Predecessors’ Festival. This prediction comes true and the child whose father is Marc Anthony is named Pliny the Younger. However, when the mother defects and wishes to name him Romanus, the Roman government has other ideas and drafts another law forbidding any female to change her title to that of “Lord”.
The next year in 2100 B.C. the fashion for women in the Roman government has yet another completely predictable result. The new law requires all women over age twenty-five to be either entirely or partially covered by a flowery purple robe known as the Juventura. This custom continues on for three hundred years with women everywhere wearing the colorful garment as a ceremonial garment, to signify when they have given birth. The modern Juventura continues to be used in the modern fashion world as well and remains one of the most recognizable accessories worn by modern women.
Another predicted fashion trend for the future is the appearance of mankind wearing clothes made from artificial fibers. Artificial fibers such as Lycra are introduced into the market for use in clothing products. The effect on the fashion industry is dramatic as the public becomes accustomed to these artificial fibers and begins to demand them more. These changes occur just prior to the first decade of the Twentieth Century, when the production of silk becomes so important to man that it forces the price of silk to increase dramatically. This marked the beginning of a century where clothing designers are primarily judged by the clothing they create rather than the materials they use to make them. For the foreseeable future the predicted fashion trends for the near future are all to do with synthetic fibers and the use of multiple color dyes.
