Two Different Fashion Trends In Puerto Rico

One of the most prominent and exciting styles that have made a statement this season is the contemporary “guayabitos” style of Mexican fashion. This new style, which is rapidly gaining popularity in the fashion industry, features oversized shawls, narrow-brimmed hats with wide cuffs and short skirts. This cutting edge design features a classic southwestern feel with colorful designs and intricate details. Two designers in the fashion capital of the world, Alejandra Delgado and Rica Salinas, have made this style famous by showing it at several international fashion shows including Fashion Week in New York, Bridal Show in Milan, and Fashionistas in Paris.

Another one of the hot clothing trends in Puerto Rico is the traditional style dress, which is worn almost exclusively by women. This dress style features a skirt that is much longer than it is high and often features asymmetrical lines and bold floral prints. Many of these dresses come in beautiful dark hues, like a midnight blue or a rich purplish-black color, complementing the rich background of native plants. The most common colors used for this style include gold, purple and azure. This dress is popular amongst younger women because of its simplicity and beauty.

The traditional style of dress has evolved into the modern day “Super Sacral”. This design features a sleeveless dress with a very large skirt that has full sleeves, and an embroidered, butterfly zigzag pattern on the back. This design also features a sash, rather than the more traditional zipper, and a very large, oversized heart-shaped blossom on its back. Belts that are sewn into the waist are sewn onto both sides of the sash, forming a belt that drapes down the front of the dress. It has an embroidered, butterfly zigzag pattern on the back, and comes in a lovely gold, purple and azure colors.
