At the turn of the century, the year 2021 will mark the twenty-first anniversary of hip hop and fashion. Many people feel that it is impossible to accurately predict such a monumental event in fashion, but I believe that we can look back in time to accurately predict trends in fashion and in music. The genre of hip hop is not a simple genre to classify, but it can be classed as urban style and also as a sub-genre of rhythm and blues. Some people believe that the decade that lies between 2021 will be known as the “postmodern era,” and it will be characterized by rebellious tendencies, negative image of authority, and the “postmodern idealism.”

Hip hop and fashion trends are always changing. In the last ten years alone we have seen many positive changes within the industry. From 1999 to present, urban clothing has become much more popular and hip-hop artists have gained popularity within mainstream society. This rise in popularity has sparked many changes in the fashion industry, including the increased use of textiles within contemporary clothing, which makes it more wearable and at the same time causes clothing to look more luxurious.

One of the most unique aspects of hip-hop fashion is that the styles remain very stylized and complex. Many artists create new and unique fashion trends each year, usually based on their own experience and personality. We are seeing this trend within fashion more, with artists like Eminem and 50 Cent constantly creating new and unique styles of clothing. One thing that is for sure is that these trends are here to stay.
