Tony DeSantis (R-FL), chairman of the House Subcommittee on Science, Space, and Competitiveness, and the Science Committee (Pai) will host the official start of the Congressional Science Meeting which will be held from 12:00 pm – 12:30 pm EDT at the Capitol Visitor Center. It will be webcast live at 4 pm EDT. There will be a two-hour briefing that will be posted at: http://www.nsf.gov/news/public_affairs/2017/08/160726/congressional-science-meeting-in-atlanta-may-17-2018.

“From the moment the announcement took place last summer, I was incredibly frustrated when it became clear that the White House was determined to implement a’skinny’ repeal rather than a simple repeal of the Affordable Care Act,” DeSantis said. “This meeting is a major opportunity for all Members of Congress to engage on a bipartisan basis to develop common principles around the legislative process, and to develop a plan to create a full-time, permanent staff position for the science caucus to ensure that the science in any upcoming legislation is appropriately represented. This meeting will also explore a proposed legislative solution to reduce the budget impact of the National Science Foundation. This is a crucial step by the House in its effort to fully fund and fulfill its role in the U.S. scientific research enterprise.”

The public meeting is open to all Members in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The date and time for the meeting are as follows:

12:00 p.m. EDT – Friday, August 17, 2017

1:00 p.m. EDT – Sunday, August 19, 2017

1:00 p.m. EDT – Tuesday, August 22, 2017
