Toe Up Sock Pattern – Free, Easy and Fun!
This free toe up sock pattern is a part of the many 2021 sock-up knit-down program, which is intended to teach you the fundamentals (and even some really great tips and tricks) for creating toe up socks for your crochet projects. So what’s so great about this pattern? The fact that it’s free means you can experiment in what you like and then take it to the next level if you find that it doesn’t work well for you. It also helps you avoid committing mistakes and oversights by teaching you how to choose the right yarn, needles, hook size, etc., and how to use them correctly in a specific pattern. The free toe up sock pattern will also help you develop your sense of when to use a particular crochet stitch and when not to use it.
Toe rows are crocheted in three strands of yarn. The first two loops over each toe are picked up and held separately. A single crochet stitch is then created and placed just before the first loop. This single crochet stitch creates the first short row of the following round of the foot’s knitting process.
At this point you will have successfully added the third strand of yarn and formed a three-stitch long strip of double crochet yarn. By inserting the rightmost leg of the double crochet stitch into the newly formed short row, a four-inch chain stitch will be formed. Now place the right hand needle into the front loop on your left needle and draw the yarn back through your previous stitch. Place the opposite leg into the other loop, bringing the yarn back through the newly drawn stitch, and now you have created a beautiful three-dimensional chain stitch pattern with a single crochet stitch.
