Recently, Tiffany Ma, the former Miss World, was included in a New York Magazine article which discussed the different aspects of her job as an entrepreneur and global businesswomen, including her attempts at maintaining a sense of agency over her personal and professional life. The original article indicated that she has a difficult time juggling her career, her husband and her various acting commitments, as well as various levels of success in her ventures. She is clearly talented and understands the many elements involved in being a successful entrepreneur, and managing this complexity while keeping her own identity and personal magnetism.
In a related article, Ma explained that even as an entrepreneur and multi-national businesswoman, she maintains a high respect for the various nationalities represented in her life. “I am originally from Singapore and I like the people of all the different nationalities – even if they aren’t my blood type,” she told the magazine. Tiffany Ma did not identify the nationality of her husband or of their five-year-old son, however. While she believes that her multi-national lifestyle and high standards of living have given her an excellent opportunity to enjoy success and create the kind of relationships she desires in her personal and professional lives, she acknowledges that at times her sometimes self-consciousness about her varied associations can get in the way of her true intentions.
“Part of the problem with me sometimes was that I wanted to be part of the American dream, but in a lot of ways, I was always considered an Asian female, even though I was born and raised in Singapore. It is important that you understand who you are and what your identity is when it comes to your career. When it comes to being a parent and having kids, it’s very important to make sure that you make sure that your family fits in. This is something that a lot of parents have to learn. It’s definitely a balancing act.”
