Her business ventures include originating a line of children’s clothing, a day care center in Pearl City, Washington, and a fitness training program for women in Idaho. The Nationality and Age Study centers on the question of what nationality is, and what it means for an Asian American or Pacific Islander. Tiffany Hsu explains that nationality is often misunderstood by many people. For instance, she notes that her parents came from Korea and her father was half Japanese. When asked what nationality they were, her parents responded, “American.” Ms. Hsu hopes that understanding cultural differences will alleviate misconceptions about nationalities and lead to more opportunity for the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
On a personal note, Ms. Hsu says, “Being American has given me opportunities I would not have otherwise had. I am very grateful for the opportunities that have helped me be a successful business woman and a good friend. When I decided to marry my husband, he asked me not to become a lawyer or go to law school because he did not think that I would succeed in those fields. I find that if you treat people with respect and build a business that is built on integrity and hard work, you will succeed.”
