Ann C., a partner in an international law firm, has been invited to participate in a seminar in Washington, D.C. on her birthday. Ann C., who has the title of an “elegant” in the legal world, is also an “elegant” in the social world as she proudly stands proud in her high-heeled shoes. Her job, as a practicing attorney with a prestigious practice, involves dealing with cases involving nationality, age, and even religion.
This will be her first visit to the White House as an invited speaker. She is looking forward to sharing her views on marriage, family values, and her own views on patriotism. Ann C. is very much an American first, as she proudly calls herself an American first lady. Ann C., who is seventy years old says that she has always identified as an American first before she married a German. And though she and her spouse have German children, they have been happily raising them all her life.
Ann C. is looking forward to hearing the Obama administration address the issues of income inequality and cultural diversity as it relates to the growing challenges of our time. In her book “The Elegant Lady: On Raising Our Children to Succeed in Today’s World,” Ann C. states, “Our nation’s historic commitment to freedom, individual initiative, open markets, private property, and religious tolerance are precious and must be protected.” She has lived and died as an American first, and she looks forward to hearing the President to express his views on these and other issues in his second term. As Ann C. told me, “I guess it’s better to be dead on one’s knees in America rather than living in Germany learning some German.” While her views on religion may be extreme, she does have some excellent advice for the newly empowered working class in America.
