Ashley Henry has left quite a mark on British and international sport scene. She is one of the fastest goalscorers in the world and her ten goals in the Premier League this season has made her the best female goalscorer in the competition. Ashley has not only done this with her own goals but has teamed up with partners of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie to form an attacking trio that has been an inspirational force throughout the league campaign. Despite these good figures Ashley has not been able to live up to the billing of a top goalscorer and this has frustrated national team coach Capello.

Ashley was born in Trinidad and Tobago and is originally from a football family. She began playing soccer when she was young and by the age of sixteen had become a regular on the school football team. Ashley grew up in an English-speaking home in the town of Wellington, where she excelled at academics and sports and even impressed the likes of goalkeeper Alanusa and tennis star Andre Agassi. After school Ashley headed to Watford University where she continued her studies and this time also discovered a love for football which would help pave the way for her career in coaching. It was this passion for the game that would eventually take her to the international stage where she would make her first appearance as a member of the England team in the FIFA world cup in Germany ineties.

Ashley was a regular on the right wing for the Watford side during the period when England won the trophy back to international status. After the disappointment of missing out on the semi finals, the manager sent her to play in the Women’s National Team and it was here that her international career really began. However, Ashley’s lack of match practice with her partners and the slow pace of the game against top sides meant that she was unable to perform to the best of her ability and even dropped down to the senior team. However, Ashley has since recovered from any injuries and has since proved that her ability and love for the game have not diminished and she is still an imposing physical presence on the right wing and is a real threat to any opponents.
