Luisa Verfuerth, the famous artist and painter whose works are still prominent in many museums across the world, was born in 1490 in the city of Salernas en el Proyecto. Her career spanned parts of Portugal, Spain and Italy, yet her most famous works are from the Netherlands and Germany. Born as Luisa Gertrude van Esposit, she worked as an apprentice to the famous artist Joost van der Goes. Although Luisa Verfuerth did not start professionally painting until she was forty years of age, she showed very early signs of talent, creating her own version of ‘The Red Virgin’, which can still be seen at various art galleries around the world.

Verfuerth’s natural ability to produce highly detailed paintings of people, buildings and natural scenes was apparent from an early age, as are her abilities with colors. As a child, she was often encouraged to paint buildings, nature and even the sky, as she would then make up stories for her audience about these subjects. However, it is thought that her talent for interpreting the world around her was what got her started on the path to becoming one of the most renowned painters of all time.

Luisa Verfuerth also spent considerable amounts of time in studying different mediums, including woodcarvings, metals and even textiles, before she found her calling and was able to leave the traditional academic career to pursue her passion full-time. In her youth she also studied the classics of Spanish grammar, mathematics and music, as well as poetry. It was this form of art that would become deeply influenced by the thinker and linguist Francisco Salvador Dali, who also wrote much of his famous work from the perspective of a Spanish baritone. Verfuerth never liked to read too much and as a result produced very few full-length paintings during her life, preferring to paint instead. She never married and remained single for the duration of her life, living in an apartment in Salernas.
