The Best Hair Styles For Older Women

There are some timeless best hair styles for older women who have already come to a pass of the age of gray. As women’s bodies mature, as well, so do their hair styles. And then, like women, your aging locks can also dictate how much attention you pay to yourself. “The common changes that happen in hair as women get older are hair thinning, texture and growth, and changes in density and shape,” says stylist Kari Heistad, owner of Redken Salon in Studio City, California. “And these changes can press you to pay more attention to your appearance.” She goes on to say that frequent cuts “do more harm than good” because they can make you look older than you actually are.

One of the best ways to combat this problem is with the use of extensions, whether they be short or long hair. The key is to choose the right one for your face, according to the stylist’s experience. If you have long hair, a super-extendable bob with a pomade-styled fringe might be a great way to hide your age. On the other hand, if you want to cut the appearance of age, consider a short braid with a subtle wave in the back. Bangs are another option, but it’s important to take note of the consequences: A big, bushy bang could make you look like you have too much hair (which you don’t), while a neat, straight bang might hide your wrinkles.

Of course, there are no real rules when it comes to hairstyles. And even if you’re an older woman, you can still wear your signature hairstyles. However, it’s important to know that the cut and texture of your hairstyle should match the pattern of your hair loss. For instance, if you’ve recently gone through a thinning period, then thick hair is probably not the best option. Instead, you should go for a longer, more casual style that highlights the natural shape of your face.
