The 1986 fashion trends were the start of something new. The year was considered a decade of revolution and change with everything from clothing, to hairstyles, to footwear being changed. With everything that was new and different, it became more than just a fashion statement; it became a lifestyle statement. The style that was in style for the past ten years could all be summed up by one word, “expression”.
The fashion industries created new looks that would suit everyone. Everyone from kids to adults wanted to look their best and dress down. There were even fashion trends for women that gave them more of an edge. Cropped pants became a favorite with the hipsters of the eighties while the belly dance skirt gave the burlesque dancers of the time a much more elegant and stylish look. No longer were these women just “bitches”, they were taking the world by storm with their unique fashion.
As the decade went on, the fashion industry began to cater to each different age group. Although teenagers still wore their thrift store fashions, the middle aged and older crowd became increasingly popular. Lingerie was no longer the domain of the younger generation, with manufacturers catering to them as well. In addition, designers started to use more feminine designs to help create a more feminine appeal. Finally, as this new wave of fashion was taking over the world, so were people’s opinions of it.
