Sunday Karim: “We’ve had a really hard, tough couple of seasons and that meant we needed to add depth at defensive end, and that’s what I think he brings. He’s definitely big, he’s athletic, he’s explosive, he’s played through a lot of injuries, and I think that’s a huge asset that we needed to add.”
What are your thoughts on the draft?
“I think it is a great value that we had in the draft. If we’ve got our heads together, we can get some key pieces for us.”
Who do you see being the first draft pick?
“You guys want the first pick, don’t you? It’s great to have an opportunity to do that, but if you know what we need and what kind of player you’re putting together and what kind of player we’re trying to develop, you shouldn’t be in that position.”
“It’s great to be able to have the option to have a first-round pick, but the thing is, it’s not up to us. What we do have to do it together from a personnel standpoint (is) we have to be smart and we have to be consistent and we have to not give up at all.
“That’s just getting a little bit better each year because the draft’s always changing. It’s tough that you look back when guys were draft picks, and you’re thinking, ‘Man, they were the best player on their team and we could’ve got a guy like that.'”
Have you spoken to Tom Savage’s camp about a contract extension or anything else?
“We certainly are in touch with everybody. I’m happy about it.”
Last year was a great draft, but who should we be watching in the future?
“There’s a lot of great players on the offensive side, there’s a lot of great players on the defensive side, so I think anytime you look at a draft class where you think (any single player will be the best on their team), I think you’re being naive.”
“Look at the first round. It’s been a little disappointing. Just because of the depth we’ve been able to move up into, I feel like some of these guys could’ve been better picks.”
What is the most difficult position there is?
“Defensive linemen. I think there’s a little bit of a
