Sofia Alexander has been an integral force behind many award-winning animated television shows such as Rugrats, Phineas and Ferretron: Spaceborne. But in addition to her credits on television, Sofia has also created her own successful full-length feature film called The Age of Generations, which is now in pre-production. Sofia has developed a strong reputation as one of the most innovative and insightful directors in modern animated film, and she has assembled a stellar cast that includes Academy Award-winner Albert Brooks, Trace Beaulieu, Ben Kingsley, Kevin Dunn, Christopher Walken, and award-winning actress Anne Hathaway.

Crunchyroll announced a very intriguing project today called The Ace of Cups, which will be an animated series like none you’ve ever seen before from the talented mind of Sofia Alexander. The premise of the series like many others written by Sofia Alexander revolves around a young woman who by the name of “Ace” (played by Alexander) finds herself taken captive by the Mexican Mafia. What makes this series so intriguing is the complete lack of information about the main character. The series creator, Alexander, provides very little background on Ace, and we do not know how deep into the Mexican underworld she really is.

As a person who grew up in the southwestern part of Mexico, I found The Ace of Cups very engrossing and interesting. The main character, “Ace”, is very like the famous Mexican soap opera characters I’ve seen, such as Narcos, Alias, or House of Cards. We see so much of the beautiful Mexican countryside and the beautiful women and men, but there are no female characters besides the main character and her two captivating lovers. The story sounds intriguing, and it looks like Sofia Alexander and Alex Cross are creating a cast of characters that we will be seeing for many seasons to come, so I’m looking forward to where this series takes us.
