The 22-player roster includes six foreigners: four Germans, two South Americans and one South African. Di Matteo also announced that Borussia Dortmund’s Arjen Robben will play for Bayern Munich in Champions League and Europa League at the end of 2014.

The team consists of five starting defenders, four central midfielders and two attacking attackers. Goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller also returns for the third time after missing last season with a back injury.

Dynamo Kiev, the most experienced team in the competition, finished third in its last group stage and will compete again in 2014 with six players who started in the 2014 UEFA Europa League qualifiers. This year, the team will also have three more players representing Ukraine in the group stage than last year.

The Dynamo finished below Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League group stage with only two wins in seven matches. The Dynamo also had two losses in the group stage, one to Benfica and the other to Valencia.
