Origins of the Missing Girl

Isabela Veschi, the protagonist in this crime novel is born in Perugia, olis, a town on the coast of the island of Sardinia, also in the Mediterranean Sea. Her parents are both of Sardinian decent but she is listed as a dual national because her father is Italian and her mother is Maltese. Her birth certificate lists her as a Sardinian and her mother as a Maltese. As it turns out, this is not necessarily the case since when her biological parents remarry, they named her” Isabela” rather than “S Sardinia”.

Although her parents’ names do not give much away, the clues are everywhere. Her full name is” Isabela Maria Cosmo”, which is short for her maiden name, “A Isabela”. The name itself has a clue as to her nationality: “Cusco”. Her height is listed as 158 cm, just about the same height as Marina; however, she appears to be slightly plumper, perhaps due to her Dominican parents.

The only other significant piece of information that we have about Marina is that she is studying to become a seamstress. It is not very clear how she fits into the Maltese or Italian professions given her rather formal educational background. This may be significant later in the investigation, but for now, her choice of occupation appears to be limited to the hospitality industry. This is odd given the amount of cultural diversity that can be found in the Italian region of Malta. All in all, we can read the story of Marina and Isabela Veschi as an example of how nationalities influence a woman’s professional world, as well as how marriage can complicate such relationships, making identification of identity even more difficult.
