Opportunity – A New Way to Look at Everything

It was very obvious from the beginning that Caroline Carr had a flair for writing and she achieved a great deal of success over her many years of writing for National Geographic. She wrote books on everything from wild boar hunting in Wales to her experiences as an expedition leader in Africa. She is best known for her popular children’s book, The Bad Sister, as well as novels including Spirit of Shocker, Dark Alliance, and Swing High School. Now, though, she has turned her focus to helping others find their own unique professional path in life through her first book of this kind, Career Secrets: How to Discover Your Path, Set Goals, and Achieve Them. This book was a tremendous success, and I expect it will be an even greater success once it has made its way into the mainstream.

In Career Secrets, Carr uncovers the hidden knowledge and wisdom of the best professionals – people from all walks of life, from all parts of the world – and shares it with us. This isn’t just another “here’s what you can do” manual or even the “here’s who I can blame for my lack of success” guide. Instead, it’s much more, and goes into great detail about not just what you can do, but why you might have been unsuccessful in the past. For example, did you know that your nationality may have something to do with your career success? Do you know the difference between being bilingual and monolingual? Why is it that one might have a successful career in one field, while others are not so successful in theirs?

If you find yourself in the situation described in this book, and you know a little about what may be going on in your job or business (or any other area), you can then use the information to help yourself discover the opportunities that lie within it. As always, the best opportunity – or alternative to a particular opportunity – lies within ourselves. We must ask ourselves, and then look for the opportunities that lie within our strengths. If we apply ourselves to making positive changes in our lives, we will discover that the opportunities that lie within them are ever increasing. We may even become so enamored of the new opportunities that come our way that we forget about our weaknesses and fall into a state of meditation – where we’re looking at opportunities from a different perspective – rather than from our old one.
