There have already been a few instances of local police officers being arrested in connection with the protests.
“The police have been behaving very badly to the people of Ferguson and the protests have gone on for a long time,” said Michael Stinnett, who was in Ferguson for the first day of the protests. He said police officers on the edge of his home near the police station are taking him by surprise.
“It’s not just just one guy, and it’s not just a single cop, it’s about all the cops,” Stinnett said, suggesting that any officer is willing to take part in the protests in Ferguson.
Stinnett said it’s clear that President Barack Obama’s administration and local law enforcement’s relationship with the protesters is very strained given that officers have responded with violence to a non-violent demonstration, sometimes in his presence.
The tension could result in more protests if a local grand jury decides whether to indict Brown, although local officials say that would be premature, Stinnett said.
“Now it’s about organizing the protests and finding somewhere to go from here,” he said.
The latest demonstrations came over a series of reports about the killing of Michael Brown and the release of a tape that captures the alleged incident. Protesters blocked streets Saturday, and demonstrations continued into the night.
A Facebook page has already been formed to help people in Ferguson get information from the authorities, Stipp said.
It is not the first time protesters have taken to the streets in Ferguson. Protests were held earlier this year, when police attempted to remove two local journalists for being unable to document an event.
