Noemii Araujo is one of the most well-known and well-loved young male artists from the early 1990s. Born in Aichi prefecture in Japan, Noemii started drawing both as a child and continued to do so into adulthood. Drawing has always been integral to Araujo’s life – it’s been something that he’s wanted to do since he was a child and continues to this day. This is evident in his professional works, which have a strong Japanese influence with an equally appealing European feel – the style exudes a mix of both East and West.
Noemii Araujo’s name translates loosely into “No Need to Drink” – a phrase that perfectly sums up his profession. He draws inspiration from a multitude of different sources and gives them all considerable weight, without losing any meaning or originality. In fact, his work is so appealing because of its simplicity – the drawings are sharp, detailed and coloured in such a way that they appear hand-painted rather than posing and stylized. The fact that Araujo chooses to make drawings in this way is testament to his dedication to his chosen profession and to his immense talent. Noemii’s artworks can be found in galleries and exhibits around the world, and are a sight to behold – his inventive use of line and shading is simply breathtaking.
Noemii Araujo studied drawing after school and then went on to become a professional illustrator before turning to a comics career. It was whilst still a student that he honed his ability as an artist, after which he travelled and worked in many countries of the east, eventually settling in Japan and opening a studio. Although this was never particularly easy, as Japanese culture can often be quite closed and secretive, Araujo managed to create a strong following amongst the Asian community and was soon acclaimed for his talents as a cartoonist. Today, he is well-known for his manga and Japanese comic book illustrative work.
