Juliana Velasquez was born inanquia, Mexico but raised in the United States. Growing up in a white-collar background in Texas, she would have been familiar with the American way of life and the pressures that came with it, yet she managed to cultivate her own individuality in her work. She is a quintessential example of an American’s attitude toward nationality, both as an individual and as a profession.

The public image of a typical American can be split between two things. One is the traditional image we are so familiar with, which consists of hard-working, honest workers who are always willing to take the chance on the welfare state, higher wages, and social protection. The other image of the typical American is one of the ambitious, intelligent, and courageous professionals who lead by example. These traits are seen in Juliana Velasquez, who despite her early hardships, persevered and today is thriving even though her status may not be exactly what it was when she was younger.

As with many who have become successful within their careers, there will be some critics who will always question whether or not it was their job to excel in the first place. Critics are not necessarily wrong; in the end, it is your responsibility to prove your worth and prove that you have what it takes to be part of whatever profession you enter. If you have done your homework, worked hard, and made a good study of your chosen profession, then it does not matter what others think about your nationality, class, or country. It is only important that you have given yourself the best opportunity possible to reach your dreams and goals.
