Natasha Dahaleh: How a Nationality Issues Imposed Favorable Conditions For Her in Iran

Natasha Dahdaleh, a dual national with Iranian and British citizenship, was arrested in Iran after attempting to visit family on holiday. It is believed that she may be an illegal or unlicensed immigrant seeking a UK work permit or permanent residence. Though Natasha was born in Iran, according to public records she was listed at birth as British. It is also possible that her nationality was changed at birth without informing the British authorities, which would have left her a British citizen by the time of her arrest.

The legal system in Iran requires citizens to give some form of identification when they reach the age of 18. There is no proof of marital status or citizenship by birth in Iran, and therefore any information provided may be considered as self-evident. However, this may not necessarily apply to a British national who becomes a resident of that country after traveling outside of that country. Many expats face problems applying for a British passport for various reasons, including having their nationality or citizenship concealed, or being too old to obtain one.

The British consulate in the City of London has been approached by Natalia and has offered to help her resolve her problem, but so far she has not accepted our assistance. Her current age and nationality (Iranian) make it impossible for her to apply for a British visa. This leaves her with the option of using an adult female escort to travel with her while she applies for a visa from the consular office in Iran.
