Muhammad Begum, 25, of Birmingham, is being treated in hospital after a knife attack on a police station in Birmingham.

On Sunday morning in Birmingham, police were called to St. Georges Road to reports that a man was making threats at a police station in the Black-Shame area of the city.

The attack happened at 8.30am when, police said, the suspect had an altercation with other officers on the pavement and a fight broke out before he came up behind two police sergeants.

A female victim, aged 37, from Birmingham, sustained leg injuries and was taken to hospital.

The other officer suffered leg wounds.

The incident happened as officers were investigating a report of a shoplifter.

Two police vehicles and a motorcycle were parked outside St. Georges Road police station.

As many as six officers and two policemen were involved in the incident, according to Birmingham Police.

An 18-year-old male suspect was arrested nearby.

He has been taken to police HQ for questioning and a 16-year-old girl was charged with conspiracy to cause an act of terrorism.

She is in police custody.
