Meghan Dhaliwal, who plays the character of Suvarna in the hit television show, Republic, is no stranger to controversy. She has previously appeared in a Hindi film ‘Nanban’ which centered on her love affair with the late NSA official, or, Bhagwati Samant. Meghan has also played opposite Ranbir Kapoor in the similar film. Her name is linked to the real-life romance between Ajit Maurya and Indira Gandhi in the hit movie, A Missing Course. There have been speculations regarding her nationality and age as well. However, in this article we will look at some of the controversies regarding Meghan’s identity and age.
The first question that comes to our mind is – does Meghan Dhaliwal really look Indian? We have seen her in some of her earlier films and her face and body looks very much like an Indian as it is mostly dominated by the features of ethnicity. However, while speaking to the media, she denied that she was Indian by saying that her mother was Bengali and her father was Pakistani. The film directors said that Meghan was not as much of an Indian as she was Bengali. When quizzed about her height, Meghan maintained that she was not of the age which is used to determine the nationality of an Asian woman, as she is only 24 years old.
However, according to several sources, Meghan is not really of Indian nationality, but Bengali in the eyes of several. It is important to point out here that Meghan is a Bengali by descent. In another interview she has also denied that she is Bengali. Instead, she maintained that her father’s family came from Pakistan and as such is considered a Pakistani. When asked if she is Bengali in the Indian profession or not, Meghan has maintained that she is not.
