Luisa Cantina was born in Oviedo, Spain and studied Art in the Rijstad University in Linkoping, Sweden under Anna Woll. Following her graduation she worked for several design agencies before deciding to launch her own line of contemporary art. Her first major solo exhibition, entitled ‘Zoo’, showcased Cantina’s unique take on zoos and was exhibited in the prestigious exhibition organized by MoMA in New York. Following this successful exhibition Cantina has now established numerous solo exhibitions, group exhibitions and solo works across Europe and North America.
The main areas of specialization within the career of Luisa Cantina are ceramics and paintings. The style of Cantina is determined by natural materials such as vases, ceramic bowls and figurines made from local materials by Cantina herself or by the materials found around Oviedo. The most common materials used in her art include glass, clay, metal and natural materials such as branches of olive trees. Her ceramics are inspired by traditional Spanish landscapes, which she says have an ‘inspiring beauty’. Her paintings are often inspired by the flora and fauna of Oviedo, particularly the rich springtime blooms of the city.
Luisa Cantina is well known throughout the wine industry and her work has been shown at the prestigious British Wine Salon in London and the prestigious International Wine Salon in Paris. Her extensive collection of glassware is known to span over one hundred years and her work has been showcased at many prestigious museums, galleries and wine exhibitions including thegalerie des Beaux-arts in Paris, the Saachi Gallery in Tokyo and the Saatchi Gallery in London. As well as her fine art and ceramics Cantina enjoys working with the cutting edge technology of her time which has seen her produce some of the most cutting edge wine labels in the world. Her work is sold all around the world and her work is a testament to her passion for wine and art.
