There are many parallels between Lara Kazan and National Lampoon’s Judge Judy. First, both women are from a different time and place (urgarobeistan!) Second, they have very different occupations; that of a judge and that of a pratfallsayer. Third, their life styles change drastically the moment they marry and have children. They both love children, especially girls, but they find themselves willing to abandon them for a much younger boy or girl whenever the opportunity arises…
As the story develops, we learn that Partner has been an honor student all her life and is always ready to put on her uniform. Despite her young age and lack of qualifications in the legal profession, Partner is confident of her ability to be a good wife, mother, and grandmother. When her old friend Maddy tells her of her impending marriage to a much older man, Partner is very supportive; she even says she will assist with the divorce proceedings should Maddy’s parents refuse to give her the divorce papers. However, when Maddy’s parents do agree to give the divorce papers, Partner thinks that it is her duty as a citizen of the United States to accompany her partner to the country where their marriage will take place. On her way to India, Partner is almost run over by a truck, and the accident leaves her with numerous injuries; these injuries, however, are not enough to keep her from participating in the country’s Miss World Competition, held in Delhi, in the year 2021.
As the competition draws near, and Partner meets many of the other contestants, she begins to question her own judgment; is being a part of the competition good for her? Will she sabotage her own chances at winning? As the competition begins, Partner is determined to win, whatever the cost; she knows that her happiness depends on her winning and that includes putting up a brave fight for her title. As the race progresses, we watch as she embraces her chance to win and risks everything for her title; all the while loving and respecting her rival.
