Knitting Sock Toes – How to Make Your Socks Become Fashionable

One of the great things about knitting socks is that they can be used as fashion statements. You might be wondering how exactly they can make a statement. The fact of the matter is that there are two primary factors that are involved in making your pair of socks become a fashion statement.

The world of knitting is filled with different options; this is exactly what makes it so wonderful a space to inhabit. Sock knitting itself is no exception, however, the myriad of different options available when it comes to obtaining the perfect fit can at times feel a bit overwhelming. In most knitting patterns the toe appears to be a trapezoid shape, obtained by performing four decreases or increases in alternate rounds depending upon the direction you are knitting. With increases being at the top of the round, and decreases being at the bottom, this is where you place your first couple of increases. As you work your way round your foot, these decreases will either decrease your overall diameter, making your toe appear smaller in the overall design or increase it overall, making your toe appear larger.

Once you have worked your way round your foot, stopping a number of inches before the end of the round, it is time to bind the sole of your toe to the yarn. A typical slip stitch or series of straight-stitch stitches are used to bind the toe, working a series of increases around the outside of the heel part of the fabric, then working back towards the base of the stitch. Once bound, your stitches are securely tightened, your socks are ready for fashion!
