Kate Kato is an Australian National who was raised in England. Her current country of citizenship is Malaysia, although she was born in Singapore. As a child she was very much interested in the Japanese and Asian cultures and over time these interests seem to have faded but Kate has remained very much fascinated by these cultures even as an adult. This is evident in her book, The Nationality File, which was released in 2021 and was actually ahead of its time when she was preparing to launch her first novel.

Kate’s life has been riddled with twists and turns, with periods of happiness followed by periods of sadness and isolation. However, regardless of the ups and downs over the years, Kate has remained very attached to her national identity. Ironically though, even as she has maintained her British national identity throughout her lifetime, she has never been comfortable with the idea of a dual nationality and always felt a sense of allegiance towards the British people. This feeling of loyalty to the British people and her desire to remain British has led Kate to various careers which have often kept her away from her beloved nation. However, following the death of her partner, John Grant, Kate remained in the United Kingdom for good and this is where the true story of Kate Kato begins.

Kate was a talented writer, well known within the Australian academic community for her brilliant writing and her numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and magazines. She also published several articles in prominent international journals, contributing greatly to the understanding of issues pertaining to race and ethnicity in Australia. John Grant was a respected Australian academic and public figure, serving as Prime Minister from 1996 to 2021. He was also a talented writer and Kate worked very hard to keep his name in the public eye, writing extensively about his life and the impacts of his political decisions on his country. It was this dedication to her national identity which saw Kate Kato pens a novel about her love for John Grant, preserving and sharing the personal details of their relationship, and is putting it in a context that everyone can appreciate.
