Kate Jones is an Australian National who has served as both a Federal Government Senator, and Minister for the Family, Friends of the Flag, and Parliament member for Corangam, New South Wales. Prior to this appointment, Kate Jones held the post of State President of South Australia, from 2021 to 2021. In 2021, she was also the first woman to be elected as Governor of South Australia. Kate Jones is now an Australian National, and is a member of the Labor party.
Prior to her appointment as the member of parliament, Kate Jones was an Attorney at law, and a practicing barrister. Ms Jones has been an active member of the Australian Labor party, having contested the seat of Orange, in Brisbane South, at the 2021 election, becoming the youngest person ever to hold that position. Kate Jones has also stood for the seat of Mayo, in Brisbane, previously, but lost that seat to the independent candidate John Howard. Ms. Jones has also been a cabinet minister in the Howard government and held the portfolios of Education, Employment and Training, and Health.
In terms of nationality, Kate Jones is of British nationality, having been born in England. Her parents are both immigrants from Trinidad and Tobago. At the time of marriage, she became a citizen of the country with her partner, while maintaining her British citizenship. In 2021, Ms Jones returned to Australia to take up her citizenship, which is valid throughout the country. It should be noted that both her parents, born in Trinidad and Tobago, have also dual citizenship status in the UK.
