Isabela Toledo was born in the year 1815, in Buzios, Spain. She is said to be the daughter of King Philip of Castile and Queen Isabella. She is reported to be an orphan who lived with her mother and two sisters, Bartolome and Ramona. Growing up, she was exposed to different cultures and languages, including Spanish, French, German and English. Later on, when she reached the age of eighteen, she married Juan de Las Aguas, a nobleman, and began a promising career as a nurse, a governess, and later on, an artist.
In 1826, she was proclaimed the first lady of the Spanish Nationality and served for four years in the supreme court of Spain. During this time, she was known for her beauty, intelligence and her profound knowledge of the Spanish language. She maintained her international status as the legal wife of Las Aguas and was given political power when the king reformed Spain. In order to complete her political qualifications, she began working as an instructor at the University of Paris. She was also active in the community, raising funds for colleges and learning the works of the great philosophers, like Aristotle and Plato.
Today, Toledo continues to practice her profession as a nurse, teacher, and member of the Spanish Nationality. She continues to live in Spain, and has been married to Ignacio Silva, a prominent lawyer and philanthropist. She is survived by her son, Ignacio, and granddaughter, Silvia.
