Ingrid Backstrom was born in Ekron, Greece, the daughter of a Greek family that immigrated to the United States, and came to live in Seattle, Washington. Backstrom excelled at almost every sport for which she competed during her years of high school, including tennis, basketball, football, track, soccer, softball, track and field, volleyball, hockey, and field. But it was golf that really brought her world-wide recognition.

Ingrid was an All-American girl who loved to compete in the Olympics, particularly in skiing and snowboarding. In the winter she skied for the University of Alaska Anchorage, where she completed a four-year degree in psychology. Backstrom finally turned to writing, but in order to get a book published, she had to first complete her Master’s degree. And now in the summer she’s working on a new book– “The Age of Ambition: A Personal History of the National Sport of Figure Skating”.

Ingrid Backstrom has lived a full and successful life and managed to turn that tragedy of birth into a very successful and interesting career. She is currently married with two children. Born in Ekron, Greece, she has contributed much to the world of figure skating, as both a skater and an author. Ingrid Backstrom’s rise to stardom can be attributed to the role she played in the growth of the US figure skating teams, as well as the role of Canadian figure skater Andre Ward. Ingrid is proud to have played such a large part in the history of this sport and she will continue to be an important part of the sport’s history.
