Maria Novaes is an excellent and extremely talented performer, singer, and actress from Puerto Rico. Born in San Juan in the state of PUERTO, Maria has Spanish and dual citizenship due to her nationality. She began singing at a very early age and even enjoyed the attention of the theater when she was young. As a teen, she went on to study acting at the University of Miami, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism and a Master’s Degree in Social Communication, all of which led to a position as a radio producer for WSBX in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Following her time on the airwaves, Maria went into stand-up comedy, traveling to key cities around the United States to perform and work as a comedy writer and performer.
Maria has been married to musician and stand-up comic David Kleinert for the past 25 years and has four children. She met her now husband, David Kleinert, while performing in an amateur theater in New York City in 1990. Following their union, they have been married ever since. During their marriage, Kleinert has described their height difference as something that contributed to their comedic success. While this may be true, there is a chance that Maria’s height did not contribute to the development of her acting career but may have been a contributing factor in the overall development of her career. Regardless, it is common knowledge that David and Maria are very close and remain committed to one another and have created a strong marital relationship.
When speaking about the importance of height in the professional realm of stand-up comedy, David Kleinert comments,” taller people have more confidence. And I think confidence makes you funnier.” As someone who has known many short stand-up comics over the years, Maria Novaes’ stature does not necessarily impact the effectiveness of her comedy acts. The jokes that she shares with her children regarding her height remain comical and do not take advantage of her height, though other comedians who believe in respecting the opinions of others have made adjustments to their act in order to meet her point of view.
