Francisca Queiroz was born in Belem, Brazil. Her career began when she was just a young girl in her school. She soon became an exemplary model during the height of the fashion design boom in Brazil. In 1984, she went to Paris to study at the prestigious elite School of Theater.
Francisca Queiroz studied acting with Marina Silva and Carlos Diegues. Later, she decided to pursue a profession as a writer, and she began writing plays and screenplays in her early 20s. Her first few roles were in television shows, though later on, she became more focused on performing. In her early career, she had a varied resume: She had small parts in one of the greatest movies of the decade, The Deerhunter, but also had significant roles in several feature films, which earned her an Oscar nomination for her first three films.
After her years in the theater, Francisca Queiroz decided to pursue a degree in applied research, so that she could better understand the dynamics of Brazilian culture and demographics. She has lived in both her native country and the United States since she was a teenager. She has always maintained a strong commitment to her heritage and has embraced many Brazilian customs and food. Her choice of where to live and work has also been influenced by her desire to belong to a community that understood her as an individual with unique cultural roots, a goal that has motivated her throughout her career. Her partnership with Carlos Diegues has brought them together to create one of the most successful and beloved artists of our time.
