The star of National Lampoon’s Animal House, Olivia Caputo is an actress and comedian who have found success in both the theater and on television. She plays the role of Bluto Shoe, an oddball pet shop owner whose daughter, assment by local veterinarian Dr. Bluto (John Belushi), forces him to sell some dog body parts. However, he soon discovers that the body parts are useful to a group of teenage misfits who plan to rob the animal shelter. Caputo plays the role of Bluto with a deadpan wit, making him an instantly likeable character. In this movie he also plays the stiff but lovable pet turtle named Olive Oyl.
As a child she was often criticized for her tiny height, Caputo channeled her frustrations by being bullied at school and even pushed from class when she couldn’t stop laughing during a school play. As an adult she has managed to find happiness playing opposite John Belushi in the movies and has appeared in some more tongue-in-cheek movies such as National Lampoon’s Animal House. She has also appeared in a few stage plays, most notably in the play Waiting For Superman, as herself. Recently she has also gained some notice playing the role of a waitress in the movie Eat Pray Love.
Caputo’s height is not just an asset for those roles in Animal House. She has also used her height advantage in other roles, including a small role in the Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure as Ted’s secretary. Her appearance in both films has given her the nickname “Olivia” which she enjoys wearing. Another episode of the animated series Family Guy gave Caputo the chance to show her short height in an episode called “Punchy Puppy”. While on the set, she chatted with fellow cast member Peter Hopper, whom she identifies as her best friend in real life. Caputo has appeared in a couple of independent films as well, such as A Bug’s Life and Get Shorty, in which she plays the title role.
