Maria Nunes is a name that many women with celebrity status would be familiar with having worked alongside some of the world’s most famous and powerful people. She has been married to a man of Italian descent for 21 years now. Despite being married for so long, Maria has managed to maintain her personal, private and public image. Born in Brazil, Maria grew up in Rio de Janeiro and went on to study at both universities of Brasilia and Rome. While at the University, she honed her skills as an engineer and later became a teacher.
In recent years, Maria has had her own book of poetry and a feature article in Time Magazine, but despite this, her career has not faded. Instead, it has blossomed into a highly successful career as a stand up comic and actress. With such a varied, international career, there is no doubt that Maria has, in fact, created quite a public identity for herself and her nationality as an artist.
Despite the fact that she has managed to maintain her marital status and public image, Ms. Nunes has refused to acknowledge any sort of connection between being Brazilian and being gay. She has remained committed to being a family person and is currently focusing on starting a family. Although many Brazilians view homosexuality with some degree of disdain, Maria’s position appears to be exceptionable. Her stance seems to indicate that she believes that being Brazilian does not necessarily entail being gay.
