How Do Fashion Trends Start?

Knowing how do fashion trends start is an interesting question because it almost always leads to a question of what clothes to wear or how to accessorize them. A good rule of thumb is to follow what you see on TV, but make sure to mix and match accessories to whatever you choose. For example, right now, many of the top fashion trends are definitely influenced by the latest looks that designers send down the runway every season at Fashion Week events in New York, Paris and Milan. But if you were to take a look at the racks at Wal-Mart or Target, you would see a very different selection of clothing as opposed to what is showcased at fashion shows and Fashion Week.

One thing that we all can all take note of, regardless of whether we are a fashion model or a regular woman walking down the street, is that the runway and fashion shows are usually separated by about six feet. And judging from what we have seen on the catwalk and the ramps at Fashion Week, most of the runway shows which get attended by the most famous designers and other celebrities, are usually about six feet long. This is just the standard length for most fashion trends. So although the runway and fashion trends may have been started on the catwalk, the actual designs which are then worn on the street have pretty much remained the same.

However, over the past few years, a number of new styles and trends for winter have emerged. One of the biggest factors that led to this is the move away from heavy coats and sweaters to lighter more stylish clothing items. And designers took full advantage of this by creating clothing lines and trends which were aimed at the younger consumer, with clothing that was not so dominated by men and women, but was instead targeted towards both genders. Of course the designers still had to keep their traditional lines and colors, but there was a newness to the designs. So knowing how to fashion trends start is not really as important as understanding what the runway trends are today.
