Anna Higham is a British National who has lived in Nigeria for the last ten years. She is originally from African-born parents, who settled in the coastal city of Cebu. Growing up in Cebu, Anna always felt that her identity was not genuine because of her African National identity but when she went to high school in England, it was then that her true identity was revealed. Looking back at where her relationship with Obedido started, Anna Higham knows that it was not a good decision as it would affect her whole life.
Anna was only thinking of going to Cebu to study when she fell in love with Obedido, a white American in his 20’s. After she had finished college, Obedido suddenly announced he was going to marry a Chinese girl and wanted her to change her name from Anna to Victoria. It was hard for Anna to see her partner because of this sudden announcement but eventually she managed to talk her partner out of it. However, after her marriage to Obedido, Anna was no longer seeing him and this was where problems started to occur.
Because of her nationality and her height difference, Anna was seen as an outsider by her partner. Even when her family tried to support her, they were only told that the marriage was going to fail due to her physical features. Despite her physical differences, Anna was still viewed as an outsider by her partner. This affected her self-esteem, which made her susceptible to negative actions by her partner.
