Bulgaria’s Nationality – Bulgaria is a country of many faces, from the medieval warrior ethos to the modern European cosmopolitan society, so much has changed since Bulgarian television artist Sofia Baltar first came to our attention. Born in 1981, Sofia Baltar is one half of the glamorous and famous duo of Jon Bon Jovi and David Hasselhoff, whose careers spanned the length and breadth of the European continent. After several years living in Europe, both her family and her artistic career found their way back to the old homeland, this time in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Following the dissolution of Yugoslavia, Sofia Baltar left her homeland to pursue her dream of a theatre career, traveling the world to find her rightful destiny. She was so lucky to come to Sofia, a small but vibrant city with an energetic nightlife and vibrant art scene, where her talents could prosper and blossom like never before. Initially working as a photographer before moving on to theatre work, Sofia gradually climbed the ranks of the National Theatre alongside her future partner David Hasselhoff. David Hasselhoff was then cast as opposite Bulgaria’s first President, Alexander Boragin, in a drama entitled Porcu, which translates as Fist. The role was supposed to be a liaison between the new President and the acting president, so Sofia would have to dress up in a rather grand way to appear in the play, and David also had to get acquainted with the paraphernalia that is associated with Sofia’s role as First President of Bulgaria.

In the play Porcu, David Hasselhoff plays the role of a smooth talking, straight-laced but slightly disreputable leader of a corrupt regime. He tries to broker peace between the political parties involved, but ultimately has to put an end to the war himself. David Hasselhoff had also made a name for himself by playing opposite Vera Wang in the well-received Kung Mangas (A Boy and His Pig) film. He went on to star in the award-winning Argo (based on the book written by George Clooney), as well as appearing in Apunts, a film about two lovers who get separated while in a dangerous mission. On the more serious side, Sofia Baltar has also acted in some more high-profile films such as Raging Bull, The Damned United, Don’t Take Me Alive, Man on the Moon, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and more. All these efforts have seen Sofia portrayed as a bold and strong heroine who overcame her many enemies to achieve personal happiness and political freedom.
