The History of Disco Era Fashion Trends. Fashion in the disco era commonly referred to items such as shoes, jewelry, clothing, and back then in the mid 1970’s was loosely connected to the music being produced at this time. Disco fashion designers worked closely with musicians to create new sounds and matched the clothes to these sounds. By the end of this decade in disco, all items were bright and colorful including many different types of jewelry.

The Music of Disco Era Fashion Trends. Disco music is characterized by fast dancing and drum breaks. This made it increasingly popular among young Americans in particular. Because of its popularity and the quick tempo of the songs, many children were introduced to dance lessons at an early age to keep up with the increasing popularity of this style of music. In fact, many parents would encourage their children to take lessons so they could learn how to dance in hopes that the children would one day break out of the staid American fashion scene and become more “Americanized” and start to develop a more exciting and colorful style of dancing.

The Rise of the Music Video. The music video was one of the greatest inventions of the disco era and marked an unprecedented peak in pop culture. Many people became obsessed with watching the many music videos that were developed during this time period and some of them even went so far as to copy or watch the entire videos for various popular artists. This trend significantly helped to further increase the popularity of this dance style and paved the way for it to take on greater influence as the decades wore on. Even today, many people from countries other than the United States watches popular music videos and follows the dance craze just as avidly as the rest of the world.
